Kyobo Art Space, operated by Kyobo Book Centre, announced Sunday that it will hold a special exhibition titled "The Moment a Sentence Is Born: Handwritten Manuscripts of Modern Korean Literary Figures" through June 14.
The exhibition focuses on illuminating "the process of how sentences are created" through original handwritten manuscripts, first editions, and related artifacts from five authors who represent modern Korean literature: Kim Yu-jeong, Yi Sang, Yeom Sang-seop, Lee Hyo-seok, and Park Kyong-ni.
While sentences in books reach readers in their completed form, the actual creative process involves repeated revisions and choices. The exhibition is designed to allow visitors to witness this process through the authors' handwritten manuscripts.

The exhibition space features areas modeled after writers' desks, visually presenting the creative process through manuscripts, memos, and traces of revisions. Notes left in margins and traces of corrections or overwriting reveal the authors' thoughts and struggles. Each author's space displays not only their works but also personal items that offer glimpses into their lives. At the end of the exhibition, a "Reader's Desk" space allows visitors to try hand-copying sentences themselves.
"This exhibition focuses on the process of how sentences are created, rather than the finished works," a Kyobo Art Space official said. "We hope it becomes an opportunity for visitors to experience literature beyond just reading it."
The exhibition is being held at Kyobo Art Space inside Kyobo Book Centre's Gwanghwamun store.
