The Korea Copyright Commission (KCC), chaired by Kang Seok-won, announced Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jinju Culture and Tourism Foundation, headed by Wang Ki-young, to promote a culture of copyright respect and revitalize regional culture and tourism. The KCC, an agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is currently based in the Innovation City of Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province.
According to the KCC, the agreement was pursued to expand civic participation through collaboration between Jinju's representative character "Hamo" and the commission's own characters, and to establish a cooperative foundation for spreading a culture of copyright respect. The initiative particularly focused on helping citizens more easily understand copyright through copyright promotion utilizing local cultural resources.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly pursue:
▲ Cooperation to spread a culture of copyright respect and promote culture and tourism content
▲ Development and promotion of joint content linked to regional culture and tourism resources
▲ Cooperation on copyright education, hands-on experiences, and awareness raising
▲ Discovery of collaborative projects utilizing both organizations' resources and networks
In particular, the two organizations plan to develop and produce content themed around copyright respect and reading culture promotion in conjunction with World Book and Copyright Day (April 23), and to launch an online campaign using the content. They also plan to produce both online and offline content incorporating copyright education and experiential elements.
