
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young announced on Tuesday that he appointed Yoo Mi-jung (60), a piano professor at Dankook University, as the new CEO of the Korea National Symphony Orchestra, a public foundation, and presented her with a letter of appointment. The new director's term is three years.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Yoo is a pianist who graduated from the Peabody Institute's piano program and its graduate school, as well as the Artist Diploma program at the Yale School of Music. She has actively communicated with audiences through concerto performances with symphony orchestras and solo recitals. She also served as a lecturer at Yonsei University and the Korea National University of Arts, and as an adjunct professor at Gachon University, before joining Dankook University as a piano professor in 2003, where she has devoted herself to nurturing emerging musicians.
The Korea National Symphony Orchestra presents high-caliber symphonic performances each year and carries out missions including collaborations with national arts organizations, regional touring performances and talent development. The CEO oversees all aspects of corporate affairs and organizational management, while the artistic director is responsible for performance activities such as planning and regular concert series.
"I expect the new CEO to leverage her extensive field experience and expertise to enhance the Korea National Symphony Orchestra's capabilities, improve organizational performance and strengthen its international standing," Minister Choi said.
