It is an old British postbox. Black-and-white footage streams from the mail slot — a current affairs program discussing Korean politics today. This is "For London and Overseas (Mailbox)" by Nam June Paik (1932–2006), exhibited in Korea for the first time. It is one of only three surviving works from Paik's retrospective organized by the Whitney Museum in 1982.
Nam June Paik has returned. The occasion is "Nam June Paik: Rewind/Repeat," an exhibition organized by Gagosian Gallery, running through May 16 at the APMA Cabinet on the first floor of Amorepacific's headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. This is the first solo exhibition in Korea held with the official cooperation of the estate that manages Paik's works and copyrights since the artist's death. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Paik's passing.
