The Korean Cultural Center in Shanghai (Director Lee Dong-hyuk) announced on Monday that it will hold the exhibition "Geumnan Friendship, A Great Journey Together" from May 9 to June 6 at the center's third-floor gallery, in partnership with the National Museum of Korean Provisional Government (Director Kim Hee-gon). The exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the Korean Provisional Government building in Shanghai and the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.
The exhibition traces the significance and achievements of bilateral cooperation, centering on the restoration project of the Korean Provisional Government buildings that began in earnest after Korea and China established diplomatic relations in 1992. In particular, as the Bogyeongri No. 4 building in Shanghai — in use since 1926 — reaches its centennial this year, the exhibition highlights the process through which these historic spaces have been restored to their original form, including the Chongqing Lianhuachi building and the Hangzhou Hobyon Village building.
About 80 artifacts will be on display, including the "Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China" and "Exhibition Design Plans for the Shanghai Korean Provisional Government Building." These key documents illustrate the diplomatic normalization and restoration processes. Visitors can also examine the restoration journey through diplomatic documents, architectural blueprints and restoration records.
