Webtoon Entertainment, the U.S.-based parent company of Naver Webtoon, ranked fourth in the "Media and News" category of Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies of 2026," the U.S. business magazine announced Tuesday.
The company previously ranked eighth overall and first in the "Media" category in Fast Company's 2023 edition of the list.
Fast Company, a U.S. business publication covering technology, management, economics, business and design, has published the annual rankings since 2008, recognizing companies with creative business models and innovative cultures. The list includes the top 50 most innovative companies globally and rankings across 59 industry categories.
Fast Company cited Webtoon Entertainment's successful creation of a two-way ecosystem — expanding webtoons into Hollywood intellectual property while simultaneously adapting major global IPs into webtoon format — and its robust content ecosystem as reasons for the selection.
Webtoon Entertainment has been recognized for creating a platform and ecosystem where anyone can easily share their stories with readers worldwide, generating a cultural movement. The company has also drawn attention for its "Flywheel" strategy, in which creators, content and users form a virtuous cycle, elevating webtoons into a new category within the global entertainment industry.
As webtoons gain greater global prominence, Webtoon Entertainment's IP business is delivering results beyond Korea in the global market. The English-language original webtoon "Stagtown" is set to be adapted into a live-action project by LuckyChap, the production company founded by actress Margot Robbie. A screen adaptation of "Death of a Popstar," involving Oscar-winning screenwriter and producer Diablo Cody, is also underway. In animation, the company is collaborating with Crunchyroll, Toei Animation, Aniplex and Warner Bros. Animation. Prime Video recently confirmed production of an animated series based on the hit English-language original webtoon "Lore Olympus."
Backed by its strong IP and creative ecosystem, Webtoon Entertainment distributed a total of 4.15 trillion won ($3.05 billion) to creators worldwide from 2021 through 2025. The company plans to invest more than 70 billion won this year in discovering new works and supporting creators.
"We are deeply honored to be recognized once again, following our selection in 2023," Webtoon Entertainment President Kim Yong-su said. "This achievement is the result of our long-standing efforts to expand the digital storytelling ecosystem together with the creator community, and recognition of the competitiveness of our IPs, which are evolving into next-generation franchises powered by a global fandom."
