
Shim Se-hoon, a professor of psychiatry at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital, was inaugurated as the 24th president of the Korean College of Neuropsychopharmacology (KCNP) at the society's recent spring academic conference. His term runs from this month through February 2028, spanning two years.
Founded in 1985, the KCNP has led the advancement of psychopharmacological research and treatment in South Korea for approximately 40 years. The society focuses on conducting scientific and clinical research on various mental health conditions and medications, including depressive disorders, bipolar disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), while exploring effective treatment strategies.
Shim graduated from Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine and serves as chair professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the university. He has amassed extensive research achievements in psychiatry, including suicide prevention programs, neuroscientific and genetic predictive factors related to suicidal behavior, and pharmacological treatment of ADHD patients. His research capabilities have been consistently recognized in academia, earning awards from the KCNP, the Korean Society for Affective Disorders and the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, among others.
"I will actively continue our work in academic research and education while also taking the lead in expanding members' clinical capabilities," Shim said. "I will do my utmost to thoroughly prepare for the Asian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AsCNP) conference hosted by our society, elevating the standing of Korean psychiatry on the international stage."
