Pianist Lim Yunchan is returning to the stage with a nationwide recital tour after a two-year absence. He will perform solo recitals at six venues across five cities in South Korea, beginning in May. The tour carries added significance as a "curated recital," with Lim personally selecting the program, venues and tour schedule.
At the heart of this recital is the repertoire chosen by "Lim Yunchan as he is now." He said, "I wanted to create work that endures the passage of time and lingers long in memory." He added, "I built the program around Schubert and Scriabin — composers I have loved for a long time and whose music I did not want to turn away from."
The tour program includes Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 17 "Gasteiner" and Scriabin's Sonatas Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Notably, Schubert is a composer Lim is presenting for the first time on a domestic recital tour. A particularly striking inclusion is Scriabin's Sonata No. 2, the piece that generated worldwide acclaim when Lim performed it in the second round of the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Born in 2004, Lim burst onto the international stage after winning the Van Cliburn Competition and solidified his presence by winning the Gramophone Awards' Recording of the Year for his "Chopin: Études" album. He has since expanded both the breadth and depth of his repertoire through successive projects including "Tchaikovsky: The Seasons" and "Bach: Goldberg Variations."
The tour begins on May 6 at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, followed by Daegu Concert House Grand Hall on May 8, Busan Concert Hall on May 9 and Tongyeong International Music Foundation Concert Hall on May 10. It continues at Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on May 12 and concludes at Incheon Arts Center on May 13. The recital program will also be performed on his upcoming global tour. In the 2026–2027 season, Lim is set to perform the complete Mozart piano sonatas at Carnegie Hall in New York. Tickets for the Seoul performances go on sale on March 27, starting at 11 a.m. for Lotte Concert Hall and 1 p.m. for Seoul Arts Center.
