South Korea's two largest online video streaming (OTT) platforms Tving and Wavve have agreed to mutually supply major original content, drawing attention to whether their long-delayed merger will gain momentum.
On the 17th, Tving and Wavve announced they will sequentially release each other's major original works every Monday. This will allow users to enjoy diverse original content from both companies on each platform.
Tving will first release to Wavve its inaugural original entertainment show "Girls' High School Mystery Class" series, which has built a strong fandom, along with "Good or Bad Dongjae," a spinoff of tvN drama "Stranger," "Dear X" which gained attention for its entry into global brand channels, and school drama hit "Pyramid Game."
Wavve will also make available on Tving its signature original content including "The Community," winner of the Best Series award at the 3rd Blue Dragon Series Awards, and survival entertainment show "The Blood Game" seasons 1 through 3.
This collaboration is interpreted as a strategic move to expand cooperation between the two companies into the content domain to strengthen competitiveness of domestic OTT platforms. The two companies established a cooperation model last year by launching bundled products such as "Double Pass" (Tving+Wavve) and "3 Pack" (Tving+Wavve+Disney+), and aim to boost synergy between platforms through this content exchange. They plan to continue expanding cooperation by mutually updating original content across various genres including dramas, entertainment shows, and documentaries.
A Tving official said, "We will strengthen cooperation synergy through the mutual supply of powerful IPs representing each platform and add vitality to the domestic OTT ecosystem." A Wavve official said, "We will continue to build an environment where users can enjoy high-quality original content more conveniently and abundantly."
