K-pop group BIGBANG will embark on a global tour this year to mark its 20th debut anniversary.
Yang Hyun-suk, chief producer of YG Entertainment, announced the plan in an interview posted on the agency's official blog on Friday.
"We have reached an agreement with the BIGBANG members to hold concerts," Yang said. "I don't think there will be any difficulties since we have worked together for a long time."
He added, "All YG staff will do their best to create a perfect and excellent performance."
BIGBANG debuted in 2006 and established itself as a leading second-generation idol group with consecutive hits including "Lies," "Haru Haru," "Last Farewell," and "Loser."
The group has not released new music since "Still Life" in April 2022.
However, members G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung have maintained their friendship by appearing as guests at each other's solo concerts and performing together at Mnet's year-end music awards "MAMA Awards" in 2024.
The members have expressed strong willingness to resume group activities for the 20th anniversary.
"BIGBANG will make a comeback for our 20th anniversary this year," G-Dragon said at his solo fan meeting last month. "As both a member and a fan, I'm looking forward to it, and I believe all the members feel the same way."
The tour is drawing attention as it marks the reunion between YG and BIGBANG, both of which have demonstrated significant influence in the K-pop market. Detailed tour plans will be announced later.
BIGBANG will also perform at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a large-scale outdoor music festival in California, next month.
Yang also revealed activity plans for other YG artists including BABYMONSTER and TREASURE.
BABYMONSTER will release a mini-album in May and a second full-length album in fall.
"The mini-album's title track is 'CHOOM,'" Yang said. "The Korean font for 'choom' (dance) looks very cool. It has an oriental feel, like a person spreading their arms and dancing."
BABYMONSTER will begin its second world tour in June, covering South America, Europe, and Oceania.
TREASURE will release a new hip-hop mini-album in June, opening the second chapter of its career.
YG also announced for the first time that it is preparing a new boy group targeting a fall launch. Following the earlier reveal of Evally and Chanya, the agency will soon introduce the remaining two members of its new girl group tentatively named "Next Monster."
"YG celebrates its 30th anniversary this year," Yang said. "Rather than expressing special sentiments, I want to say that we will work hard here without losing our original intentions until the 40th and 50th anniversaries."
He added, "Since last year, we have done our best for BABYMONSTER and TREASURE's active promotions. We will polish those results to shine even brighter and bring you good news throughout the year."
