
Lee Won-young, professor of endocrinology at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, was elected as the next chairman of the Korean Endocrine Society at the organization's recent board of councilors meeting. His two-year term will run from January 2027 through December 2028.
Founded in 1982, the Korean Endocrine Society is an academic organization conducting research on various endocrine disorders, including diabetes and thyroid diseases. The society plays a central role in endocrine and metabolic medicine through various initiatives, including hosting domestic and international academic conferences, publishing journals and educational content, developing clinical practice guidelines, and supporting scholarly activities.
Lee currently serves as chief of internal medicine and director of the Diabetes Center at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, and is a full member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences. He previously served as president of the Korean Society of Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention and has received numerous honors from the Korean Endocrine Society, including the International Paper Award, Distinguished Service Award, Research Excellence Award, and Namgok Academic Award.
"I will work to advance the Korean Endocrine Society into a leading global organization in the endocrine field," Lee said. "I will do my best to make the society more accessible to patients."
