Oh Ji-young, professor of neurology at Konkuk University Hospital, has been inaugurated as the new president of the Korean Society of Neuroimmunology. Her term runs for one year starting this month.
The Korean Society of Neuroimmunology is a specialized academic organization that researches immune diseases affecting the central nervous system—including the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves—as well as the peripheral nervous system, including peripheral nerves and muscles. The society primarily studies rare and intractable neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, MOG antibody-associated disease, demyelinating neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, and autoimmune myositis. Beyond research, the organization focuses on academic exchanges among members, international collaboration, and partnerships with rare disease patient associations.
Following her inauguration, President Oh plans to systematically establish a nationwide database for rare neurological diseases within the society, laying the foundation for reliable epidemiological research and evidence generation.
"Neuroimmunology is the fastest-growing and expanding field both academically and clinically through various new drug developments," President Oh said. "I will maintain steady communication with patients to ensure that limited patient numbers do not lead to insufficient attention and support."
