
Director Jang Hang-jun's film "The Man Who Lives with the King" has surpassed 6 million viewers.
According to distributor Showbox on the 24th, the cumulative audience for "The Man Who Lives with the King" exceeded 6 million on the previous day, the 20th day since its release. The film reached the 6 million milestone faster than "The King and the Clown" (2005), a period drama with a similar title that eventually attracted 10 million viewers. "The King and the Clown" crossed 6 million viewers 29 days after release and ultimately drew a total of 10.51 million viewers. "The Man Who Lives with the King" matched the pace of "Masquerade" (2012), which attracted 12.32 million viewers.
Starring Yoo Hae-jin and Park Ji-hoon, "The Man Who Lives with the King" depicts the story of the deposed King Danjong Lee Hong-wi (played by Park Ji-hoon) being exiled to Yeongwol in Gangwon Province, where he spends his final days under the compassionate care of village chief Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin). The film warmly portrays how Lee Hong-wi, who lost his will to live after enduring unbearable hardships at a young age, gradually regains his resolve through connections with the villagers who become his neighbors.
With family-friendly content including the Lunar New Year holiday period, the film has topped the weekend box office for three consecutive weeks and has maintained the number one position in the overall box office for 11 consecutive days.
