Kim Chae-won's "Three Stars Fall" has been selected as the grand prize winner of the 17th Young Writers Award, literary publisher Munhakdongne announced on the 10th.
Kim began her writing career through the Kyunghyang Shinmun Spring Literary Contest in 2022 and has published a short story collection titled "Seoul Oasis." The judging panel noted that the work "created a distinctive emotional landscape by intricately arranging a prolonged period of mourning within a unique narrative rhythm."
Other winners of the Young Writers Award include Gillan's "Eulogy," Nam Ui-hyun's "I Love Baseball," Seo Jang-won's "Hideo," Wi Su-jeong's "A House Without Ghosts," Lee Mi-sang's "One Day of Wildness," and Ham Yun-yi's "When Our Enemies Climb the Mountain."
The Young Writers Award honors the seven best short stories and novellas published during the year by authors with less than 10 years since their literary debut. One grand prize winner is selected from among the seven recipients. All winners receive a trophy and prize money of 7 million won each.
