The Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine announced on the 10th that it was elected as an "Academic Institutional Member" at the 2026 Korean Academy of Medical Sciences general assembly held recently.
The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences is an academic organization founded in 2004 by leading scholars in domestic medical fields to contribute to medical advancement and public health improvement. In 2016, it became a statutory body designated under the Medical Service Act alongside the Korean Medical Association.
Academic Institutional Membership is a system recently introduced by the Academy to further strengthen academic cooperation and expand the scope of activities. Qualifications are granted through rigorous verification. The Catholic University College of Medicine was elected as an institutional member in recognition of its educational capabilities and academic and research achievements. It will now hold the authority to participate in various key decision-making processes, including the Academy's academic activities and policy development.
Dean Lee Dong-gun, who received the membership certificate on behalf of the medical school, said, "It is highly meaningful that our university has received official recognition of its standing to contribute to domestic medical advancement together with the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences." He added, "We will actively work to ensure that our capable and outstanding faculty members participate as full members of the Academy and engage in more activities going forward."
