Ballerina Yeom Da-yeon (17) won second place at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, one of the world's five most prestigious ballet competitions.
The Prix de Lausanne announced on its official website on February 8 (local time) that 14 winners were selected at the finals of the 54th Prix de Lausanne held in Lausanne, Switzerland the previous day. Yeom Da-yeon placed second behind American dancer William Gaibs. Prior to the main awards ceremony, Yeom also received the Audience Award in the special awards category. Yeom has been supported by the Chung Mong-koo Foundation as a ballet prodigy since middle school.
In addition to Yeom, five Korean dancers in total were named among the prize winners: Shin A-ra (7th), Kim Tae-eun (10th), Bang Su-hyeok (11th), Son Min-kyun (12th), and Jeon Ji-yul (14th). The Prix de Lausanne is considered one of the world's top ballet competitions alongside the Varna, Jackson, Moscow, and Paris competitions.
